WHO
WE ARE
Shadow Servants is a nonprofit organization that supports the ministries, churches, and communities of reformed pastors in Kenya, Tanzania, and the surrounding areas.
HOW WE STARTED
Shadow Servants began when David Murithi reached out with a friend request to Jim Faucett. David shared what he was doing in his evangelistic outreach amongst the Turkana people, who had been neglected by traditional missionaries. David had been instrumental in planting a church in the village of Kareterete, where the people lived in traditional African manyattas, or mud huts. The church met under a tree where the people sat on makeshift benches. David invited Jim to come to Kenya for a visit.
Jim researched how much it would cost to travel to Kenya for a short visit of two weeks. He found that what he would spend on travel to Kenya would support a Kenyan pastor for a year. Jim decided to send the support rather than visit, but he asked that David study with him every weekend for two hours going through the Heidelberg Catechism. In 2016, Jim finally decided to go to Kenya for his first ever visit to Africa. After this, these men and a few others decided to put together some resources to dig a well for the Turkana village of Kareterete and to erect a building where the church could meet. Shadow Servants was born. From there, a pastoral training program began. Since 2016, eight new churches have been planted amongst neglected peoples in Kenya. In other locations, pastors and churches have been provided with much needed training, resources, Bibles, and practical help. Shadow Servants now partners with pastors and churches in Kenya, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Shadow Servants approaches missions by getting behind indigenous pastors and churches who are leading the way. We are participating with them in the gospel. We have seen God do great things in such a short time. We pray you’ll join us as we seek to glorify God.
